Rick is back from Nashville!
posted: 03/07/11

Rick has just returned from his trip to Nashville and Saskatoon as Executive Producer on Todd Richard's new recording project. The first leg of the trip was to Nashville's incredible Ocean Way Recording Studios where the bed tracks were put down for 7 new songs co-written by Rick and Todd. This world class studio is where multi-platinum selling albums by Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Toby Keith, Avril Lavigne and Cheryl Crow have been recorded. On the sessions was a stellar line up of Nashville's top musicians who have played on No. 1 recordings for artists such as Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban and Brad Paisley.

Once the Nashville leg of the trip was complete the guys made their way to Award Winning Record Producer Bart McKay's Studio in Saskatoon. There over the next few days Todd put down his vocal tracks before they finally headed home.

Rick says "I really believe in these songs Todd and I have written. Now that I have heard these amazing bed tracks along with Todd's strong rich vocals, I think we have a winning package that folks are really going to take note of and enjoy".

Your first chance to hear some of these great new songs Todd and Rick have written will be at the Ricky's Music World New Artist Showcase, April 2nd at The ACT in Maple Ridge, B.C. Todd's first single is tentatively scheduled for release sometime late Spring 2011.

September Video of the Month - Get Hot or Go Home
posted: 09/03/09

The new Pick the Rick Video of the Month has been decided by you! Now showing in the Video section is Get Hot or Go Home. This video has achieved a first at ricktippe.com becoming the first Rick Tippe music video to appear four times as Video of the Month. Voting has begun for the October Video of the Month. Remember you can cast your vote once a day, every day throughout the month of September to determine the next Rick Tippe video to play here at ricktippe.com.

Fun Facts about the Get Hot or Go Home music video - The song Get Hot or Go Home is the title track to Rick's sophomore CD recorded in Nashville and released in October 1996. While this music video was Rick's fifth is was the first for award winning Director Stephano Barberis.

It is amongst the most elaborate Rick Tippe music videos ever produced. This two day shoot involved a large refrigerated warehouse where over a three day period an ice house was constructed out of two hundred pound blocks of ice. Everyone who worked on the set of this video literally had to work in freezing temperatures to get the job done. The final scene was particularly interesting as the cast had to dress up in swimwear...burr!

The final day of the shoot took place on August 31st, Rick and wife Bonnie's wedding anniversary. Sadly August 31st, 1997 was the same day Princess Diane passed away in a tragic car accident.

The video did extremely well on CMT Canada making it into the Top 10 of the Chevy Top 20 Countdown.

August Video of the Month - She Could Have It All
posted: 08/04/09

The new Pick the Rick Video of the Month has been decided by you! Now showing in the Video section is She Could Have It All. This song and video were released in 1995.

Voting has begun for the September Video of the Month, so remember you can cast your vote once a day, every day throughout the month of August to determine the next Rick Tippe video to play here at www.ricktippe.com.

Fun Facts about the She Could Have It All music video - The song came from Rick's debut CD Should'a Seen Her Comin' recorded in Nashville and released in February 1994. The video was the first ever video for Rick and The Kings of Cool (known then as Stetson Moon). The video was shot on a hot July day in 1995 at a heritage home in Richmond, B.C. This video featured a lot of Rick's relatives including his parents Alice and Elmer Tippe, his two sons Tyler and Cameron, his cousins Alison, Darcy and Brent as well as numerous fans. Die hard fans will recognize original keyboardist Andy Smyth. The little girl in the video was Stephanie Evangelista. Not to be outdone, Stephanie's older sister Daniella has since gone on to star in two Rick Tippe videos The Future Is Lookin' Brighter and Triple Threat. Other guest appearances were made by the disc jockey team of Michael Forbes and Lisa Marshall.

At the end of the shoot the guys had to head over to Jake's Crossing in Port Moody to perform to a packed house. The band headed over to the gig before Rick as he still had some scenes to shoot. Once he was done Rick jumped into his van and kicked off his boots. Seconds later as he attempted to step on the gas pedal he was stung on the foot by a wasp. Rick said "It stung pretty good, but once I was back up on stage with the guys and rockin' with the crowd I forgot about the pain".

The one thing this video will be best remembered for is the Hair! The band had lots of it back in the day.

Video of the Month - More Where That Came From
posted: 07/03/09

The new Pick the Rick Video of the Month for July has been decided by you! Now showing in the Video section is More Where That Came From. This song was released in 1999 and was one of four singles from Rick's Shiver 'n' Shake CD to make it into the Top 20 at Canadian Country Radio. Voting has begun for the August Video of the Month, so remember you can cast your vote once a day, every day throughout the month of July to determine the next Rick Tippe video to play here at www.ricktippe.com.

Fun Facts about the More Where That Came From music video - The More Where That Came From video was filmed in Burnaby, BC. What made this video different from the typical Rick Tippe music video was the lack of a secondary storyline to go along with Rick's performance. Two sets were constructed and with cameras rolling Rick along with a group of young people cranked up the tunes and rocked out! All kinds of tricks were used in filming the video with slow and fast motion, strobe lights and blue screening (which allows the subject filmed in front of the blue screen to be super imposed over other video footage).

Once the shoot day was wrapped up it was off to Post Production (editing) where the fun continued assembling all the footage and adding even more visual effects with the use of multiple split screens and quit cuts from one shot to another. Things to watch for are the black cat and Rick's eldest son Tyler. The cat appears in the upper left hand corner of the screen at the start of the second chorus...upside down. Tyler can be seen throughout the video but if you aren't sure who he is, watch for the young man the girl throws the hay on during the solo section of the song...that's Tyler. This video was one of numerous videos that Rick produced.

Video of the Month - You're All I Need
posted: 06/12/09

The new Pick the Rick Video of the Month for June has been decided by you! Now showing in the Video section is You're All I Need. This is the third time this video has aired in the Video section of www.ricktippe.com. In March 1997 it was released as the follow-up video to Rick's hit The Craziest Thing. Both were from his sophomore CD Get Hot or Go Home.

Voting has begun for the July Video of the Month, so remember you can cast your vote once a day, every day throughout the month of June to determine the next Rick Tippe video to play here at www.ricktippe.com.

Fun Facts about the You're All I Need music video - The You're All I Need video was the first video Rick ever shot in Las Vegas. It was filmed in February 1997 and the weather was miserable the first day of the shoot. It was so cold that the rain that came down that morning was turning to ice on the roads. Later that afternoon the weather improved but it was still very cold. You may notice that Rick is wearing three layers of clothing in this video.

The video was directed by Ulf Buddensieck and shot mostly on the outskirts of Las Vegas in an area called The Valley of Fire. The video was shot with an old 16mm Bolex wind up video camera. This made filming Rick's close up scenes that were shot looking through the windshield of the car while he was driving a bit concerning. Since the camera had to be continually rewound director Ulf volunteered to be strapped to the hood of the car so he could quickly rewind the camera every time it stopped. Ulf is a very large guy and the road was windy. So when it came to turning to the right Rick's vision was blocked out by Ulf who was mounted on the hood of the car. This was quite dangerous as other cars and trucks were on the road at the time, but Ulf insisted on getting the shot.

Ulf's concept involved everyday people singing the song. Since there was no budget for extras he had to convince everyday people to take part in the video. This meant they had to learn and then sing a few lines of a song they had never heard before. Ulf found a few good sports at a diner where he convinced an older couple who were just patrons as well as a guy working in the cafeteria to help out. The other two guys singing the song were the only other crew members beside Ulf on the video shoot. The lone guy sitting by the front window was the Director of Photography. Ace, the Assistant Director is the guy without his shirt on at the door way to one of the motel rooms.

Ace not only played himself, but Rick at the end of the video. If you look at the last shot of what appears to be Rick running towards the pay phone from the car you'll notice you cannot see his face...that is due to the fact it isn't Rick at all, it was Ace filling in. Rick had already returned home for a concert the final day of the shoot.

Video of the Month - Get Hot or Go Home
posted: 04/05/09

The new Pick the Rick Video of the Month has been decided by you! Now showing in the Video section is Get Hot or Go Home. This is the third time this video has been voted Video of the Month.

Voting has begun for the May Video of the Month. Remember you can cast your vote once a day, every day throughout the month of April to determine the next Rick Tippe video to play here at www.ricktippe.com.

Fun Facts about the Get Hot or Go Home music video - The song Get Hot or Go Home is the title track to Rick's sophomore CD recorded in Nashville and released in October 1996. While this music video was Rick's fifth, it was the first for award winning director Stephano Barberis.

Sadly August 31st, 1997 was the same day Princess Diana passed away in a tragic car accident.

The video did extremely well on CMT Canada making it into the Top 10 of the Chevy Top 20 Countdown.

Video of the Month - Triple Threat
posted: 03/04/09

The new Pick the Rick Video of the Month has been decided by you! Now showing in the Video section is Triple Threat. This is the second time this video has aired on www.ricktippe.com. Voting has begun for the April Video of the Month, so remember you can cast your vote once a day, every day throughout the month of March to determine the next Rick Tippe video to play here at www.ricktippe.com

In February 1999 Triple Threat was released as the first single from Rick's CD Shiver 'n' Shake and was a huge success on CMT Canada.

Fun Facts about the Triple Threat music video - The Triple Threat video was filmed in late February 1999 in New Westminster, BC. The video signified a number of firsts for a Rick Tippe video. It was the first to make use of special effects and it was also the first of seven music videos that Rick would produce. The video was directed once again by Stephano Barberis.

One of the things that a viewer would never know by watching the video is the actual size of the tunnel Rick performed in. The tunnel was 16 feet long and constructed with a forced perspective. This meant while it was 7 feet tall at the front it tapered down to just 3 feet in the back. Rick had to stay near the front of the tunnel for his performance shots as it was the only place tall enough for him and his Stetson to rock out. Later in the video you see three Rick's in the tunnel. Of course we know there are not three Rick Tippe's but the thing you wouldn't have known is that the extra two Rick's could never have been that far back in the tunnel.

Another first for this video was the appearance of Danielle Evangelista. Danielle's little sister Stephanie appeared in Rick's first video She Could Have It All. Danielle later would outdo her sister by appearing in not one, but two Rick Tippe videos. Can you recall what other video Danielle was in?

Sadly in the summer of 2008 at Woodlands, the site where the Triple Threat video was filmed, there was a massive fire. The remains of the buildings on the site had to be demolished.

January Video of the Month - You're All I Need
posted: 01/07/09

The first Pick the Rick Video of the Month for 2009 has been decided by you! Now showing in the Video section is You're All I Need. This is the second time this video has aired on www.ricktippe.com. In March 1997 it was released as the follow-up video to Rick's hit The Craziest Thing. Both were from his sophomore CD Get Hot or Go Home.

Voting has begun for the February Video of the Month, so remember you can cast your vote in the Video section once a day, every day throughout the month of January to determine the next Rick Tippe video to play at www.ricktippe.com.

Fun Facts about You're All I Need music video - The You're All I Need video was the first video Rick ever shot in Las Vegas.

November Video of the Month - She Could Have It All
posted: 11/02/08

The new Pick the Rick Video of the Month has been decided by you! Now showing in the Video section is She Could Have It All. This song and video were released in 1995.

Voting has begun for the December Video of the Month, so remember you can cast your vote once a day, every day throughout the month of November to determine the next Rick Tippe video to play here at www.ricktippe.com.

Not to be outdone, Stephanie's older sister Danielle has since gone on to star in two Rick Tippe videos The Future Is Lookin' Brighter and Triple Threat.

September Video of the Month - Triple Threat
posted: 09/04/08

The new Pick the Rick Video of the Month has been decided by you! Now showing in the Video section is Triple Threat. This is the first time this video has aired on www.ricktippe.com. In February 1999 it was released as the first single from Rick's CD Shiver 'n' Shake and was a huge success on CMT Canada.

Voting has begun for the October Video of the Month, so remember you can cast your vote once a day, every day throughout the month of September to determine the next Rick Tippe video to play here at www.ricktippe.com.

YouTube.com - Tippe falls for YouTube! Watch!
posted: 08/07/08

Friday night August 1st Moon Tan Music posted The King of Honky Tonks and Cool video on YouTube.com. Saturday, Keepin' The Faith and The Craziest Thing videos were uploaded as well.

Then Saturday night, Rick and The Kings of Cool headlined the Abbotsford Agrifair. While performing the Hot Wheels song Rick wrote for Mattel 5 years ago he stepped to the side of the stage to climb up on the speaker stand that he was up on earlier in the show. Due to a blue tarp that was pulled over the speaker stand Rick couldn't see that at the very back of the tarp there was nothing to stand on. 48 seconds into the song Rick walked over to the speaker stand and proceeded to step onto the area of the tarp where there was no platform. Rick fell to the ground bruising his right leg and hip. While he was falling and trying to get back up on the stage Rick continued to sing. The Kings of Cool had no idea of what had happened but the audience on the other hand, could see something was wrong.

There are now 3 different clips of the mishap on YouTube.com you can view. Audience members Evelyn, Terry and Todd all caught the mishap on their camcorders. To view the footage go to www.youtube.com and search Rick Tippe Hot Wheels. In two of the videos you'll see Rick's fall and in the third you'll see his reaction to the mishap. Be sure to check out Rick's music videos while you are there.

"I'll Do Anything" - August Video of the Month
posted: 08/07/08

The new Pick the Rick Video of the Month has been decided by you! Now showing in the Video section is I'll Do Anything. This is the first time this video has aired on www.ricktippe.com and it was released in October 2002. The video was the second from Rick's CD Singin' a Different Tune.

Voting has begun for the September Video of the Month, so remember you can cast your vote once a day, every day throughout the month of September to determine the next Rick Tippe video to play here at www.ricktippe.com

Fun Facts about I'll Do Anything music video - The video was a one day shoot, filmed at Crescent Beach in White Rock, B.C. and it was directed by Stephano Barberis. The video features appearances by Rick's mom, the elderly lady that loses her shopping cart, Rick's nephew, the kid that jumps out of the way of the runaway shopping cart and later sprays the girl on the blanket at the beach with a water gun and Rick's brother in-law, one of the guys in the park that has his motorcycle stolen.

The day before the filming of the I'll Do Anything music video Moon Tan Music received a phone call from the parents of the young lady that was cast as the female lead. Their daughter was having second thoughts about taking on the lead role so the mad scramble was on to find another young lady to fill the role with less than 20 hours to filming. After a few hours of frantic phone calls and brain storming to find a replacement the situations was resolved. Nicole Charlton who is the daughter of Rick's friends Rob and Corinna agreed to play the role and she did a fantastic job acting!

There were a few injuries suffered during the filming of the video as well. Our lead male actor actually took a spill on the motorcycle while attempting to turn around on a dead end street and earlier in the day one of the two guys who were running after him in the park when he initially steals the motorcycle took a nasty fall on the gravel and tore up his jeans and his knee.

The cheerleading squad was a group of young ladies and one lone young man from Rick's hometown of Maple Ridge, B.C.

"The Power of One" CD review - 4 Stars
posted: 07/11/08

The latest CD review for Rick's new CD The Power of One is just in from BC Musician Magazine. The review gives the CD a 4 Star rating. Here are a few brief excerpts from what they had to say:

After hearing The Power of One a couple of times, it's obvious why this guy is so popular. While his songs broach topics that have been covered countless times in country, I can't detect a false note anywhere. From a joyous romp like "She's A Guitar" to ballads like "Forever", he means it. You gotta respect a guy that can write lines like "it's a long way to paradise / when you're crawlin' on your hands and knees." Rick and his band "The Kings Of Cool" are masters of their craft.

Country music is like any musical genre - lots of crapola, stuff that's 'okay' - and then there's the good stuff. On The Power Of One, Rick Tippe has given us a dose of the good stuff. I wouldn't call myself a country fan per se, but some of it I DO like - and Tippe's new album is excellent.

"You're All I Need" - July Video of the Month
posted: 07/02/08

The new Pick the Rick Video of the Month has been decided by you! Now showing in the Video section is You're All I Need. This is the first time this video has aired on www.ricktippe.com. In March 1997 it was released as the follow-up video to Rick's hit The Craziest Thing. Both were from his sophomore CD Get Hot or Go Home.

Voting has begun for the August Video of the Month, so remember you can cast your vote once a day, every day throughout the month of July to determine the next Rick Tippe video to play here at www.ricktippe.com.

Fun Facts about the You're All I Need music video - The You're All I Need video was the first video Rick ever shot in Las Vegas. It was filmed in February 1997 and the weather was miserable the first day of the shoot. It was so cold that the bit of rain that came down that morning was turning to ice on the roads. This made filming Rick's close up scenes, that were shot looking through the windshield of the car...while he was driving, a bit concerning. Since the camera had to be continually rewound, director Ulf volunteered to be strapped to the hood of the car so he could quickly rewind the camera every time it stopped. Ulf is a very large guy and the road was windy. When it came to turning to the right Rick's vision was blocked out by Ulf who was mounted on the hood of the car. This was quite dangerous as other cars and trucks were on the road at the time.

Ulf's concept involved everyday people singing the song. Since there was no budget for extras he had to convince everyday people to take part in the video. This meant they had to learn and then sing a few lines of a song they had never heard before. Ulf found a few good sports at a diner, where he convinced an older couple who were just patrons as well as a guy working in the cafeteria to help out. The other two guys singing to the song were the only other crew members besides Ulf on the video shoot. The lone guy sitting by the front window was the Director of Photography and the guy without his shirt on at the doorway to one of the motel rooms was Ace, Ulf's Assistant Director. Ace not only played himself in the video, but Rick as well. The second last shot you see is what appears to be Rick running towards the pay phone from the car . You'll notice you can't actually see his face...that is due to the fact it isn't Rick at all...it was Ace filling in. Rick had to return home for a concert the final day of the shoot.

The first CD review is in on Rick's new CD. On May 27th the Vancouver Province newspaper gave The Power of One a very favorable review with a B rating. Here is a sample of what Vancouver Province Music Critic John P. McLaughlin had to say: "He's (Rick) kept a lower profile these past six years but it looks like the itch for more activity has got the better of him. The sound he's getting with long-time production collaborator Chris Rolin is the best they've managed so far, while Tippe has expanded his writing focus. There's the love stuff as on the tender "Forever", but he's touching on redemption with "Long Way to Paradise" and his "She's a Guitar" is fun and hit bound. Good Stuff." B

"The Future Is Lookin' Brighter" - June Video of the Month
posted: 06/03/08

The new Pick the Rick Video of the Month has been decided by you! Now showing in the Video section is The Future is Lookin' Brighter. It is the second video to air for a second time on www.ricktippe.com since the launching of the new website in August of 2007. This video was released in October 2001 and the song is from Rick's Best of Rick Tippe CD. It was an instant hit at CMT Canada receiving heavy rotation and making it into the Top 10 on the Cross Canada Chevy Countdown.

Voting has begun for the July Video of the Month, so remember you can cast your vote once a day, every day throughout the month of June to determine the next Rick Tippe video to play here at www.ricktippe.com.

Fun Facts about The Future Is Lookin' Brighter music video - Rick wrote this song while he had a few off days in the summer of 2000 in Red Deer, Alberta at the Travelodge Motel. The Future Is Lookin' Brighter was the second music video Rick shot in Las Vegas. Can you guess what the first one was? The shooting of this video took place on September 22 to 25 just eleven days after the 9/11 incident in New York. Traveling in and out of the USA was very difficult at the time and there was a big concern this video would be canceled or postponed. Rick's oldest son Tyler is the lead male actor in the video. You can see Tyler and his brother Cameron both in dad's latest video The King of Honky Tonks and Cool. The weather was extremely hot in Las Vegas that fall with temperatures soaring to 104 degrees Fahrenheit! Rick's final performance scene for the video was shot on Freemont St. where the crew had it timed out just right that Rick would start to sing just as the show would start in the lighted canopy above him. Just as Rick was ready to sing this lovely power ballad, a large fight broke out just to his right about twenty feet away. One guy had a crutch and he was swinging it wildly at the others in the brawl. Shortly security men and women were racing to the scene. All the while Rick stayed focused on his performance, ignoring the chaos around him. The Future Is Lookin' Brighter video went on to win the 2002 BCCMA Video of the Year.

"The Craziest Thing" - May Video of the Month
posted: 05/04/08

The new Pick the Rick Video of the Month has been decided by you! Now showing in the Video section is The Craziest Thing. It is the first video to air for a second time on www.ricktippe.com since the launch of the new site in August 2007. In October 1996, this song and video were the first released from Rick's sophomore CD Get Hot Or Go Home. The video was an instant hit at CMT Canada receiving heavy rotation while the song also did extremely well finding its way into the Top 15 at Canadian Country Radio.

Voting has begun for the May Video of the Month, so remember you can cast your vote once a day, every day throughout the month of May to determine the next Rick Tippe video to play here at www.ricktippe.com.

Fun Facts about The Craziest Thing music video - The Craziest Thing video was a two day shoot filmed in Vancouver, BC in an empty warehouse. The entire set was built on site. This was director Ulf Buddensieck's second video working with Rick and his goal was to capture his high energy from the stage and bring it to the small screen. The Kings of Cool then known as Stetson Moon (including original keyboardist Andy Smyth) made a couple of brief appearances in the video. Sportsnet Connected broadcaster Don Taylor also made a cameo appearance in the video. Rick always enjoyed watching Don's broadcasts on Sports Page which aired week nights in Vancouver on TV station VU-13. One night after Don had completed his broadcast he came over to MV Video, which happened to be just up the street from VU-13, where he ad-libbed his part in the video. Unfortunately the opening scenes that featured Don reading out the stats, as the camera panned the living room full of passed out band members, were axed by CMT. Since there was no music playing during these scenes CMT decided to delete the majority of Don's performance. But don't fret, here at www.ricktippe.com we are pleased to bring to you The Craziest Thing video in its entirety. Enjoy!

"More Where That Came From" - April Video of the Month
posted: 04/02/08

The new Pick the Rick Video of the Month has been decided by you! Now showing in the Video section is More Where That Came From. This song was released in 1999 and was one of four singles from Rick's Shiver 'n' Shake CD to make it into the Top 20 at Canadian Country Radio.

Voting has begun for the April Video of the Month, so remember you can cast your vote once a day, every day throughout the month of April to determine the next Rick Tippe video to play here at www.ricktippe.com.

Fun Facts about the More Where That Came From music video - The video was filmed in Burnaby, BC. What made this video different from the typical Rick Tippe music video was the lack of a secondary storyline to go along with Rick's performance. Two sets were constructed and with cameras rolling Rick along with a group of young people cranked up the tune and rocked out! All kinds of tricks were used in filming the video with slow and fast motion, strobe lights and blue screening (which allows the subject filmed in front of the blue screen to be super imposed over other video footage). Once the shoot day was wrapped up it was off to Post Production (editing) where the fun continued assembling all the footage and adding even more visual effects with the use of multiple split screens and quick cuts from one shot to another. This video was one of numerous videos that Rick produced and rumor has it that all the fluorescent light fixtures that were used in the red room are still collecting dust in his garage.

Tippe on CTV National News
posted: 03/12/08

This past weekend Rick appeared on Canada's CTV Television network. The interview first ran Friday on the CTV evening news in Vancouver, B.C. Then Saturday, on CTV's 24 hour national news channel Newsnet, the segment ran numerous times throughout the day. No, it didn't have much to do with Rick's music as it was more to do with his passion for Mattel's diecast toy car the Hot Wheel. Mattel's Canadian Public Relations firm asked Rick if he would do the interview to help celebrate the 40th Anniversary of these iconic toy cars. To view the segment that aired on Canadian national TV click here. The music you hear playing in the background of the segment is the song Rick wrote and recorded for Mattel in 2003 to help commemorate Hot Wheels 35th Anniversary.

"Shiver 'n' Shake" - March Video of the Month
posted: 03/03/08

The new Pick the Rick Video of the Month has been decided by you! Now showing in the Video section is Shiver 'n' Shake. This song was the title track to Rick's first CD recorded in Canada and was a Top 10 Single in the summer of 1999.

Voting has begun for the April Video of the Month, so remember you can cast your vote once a day, every day throughout the month of March to determine the next Rick Tippe video to play here at www.ricktippe.com.

Fun (or not much fun) Facts about the Shiver 'n' Shake music video - The Shiver 'n' Shake video was filmed in Burnaby, BC and is the only Rick Tippe video to make use of black and white footage. This shoot had more than it's share of problems getting completed. The set for Rick's performance was one of the most challenging for set builder Craig Stokes. The difficulty lied in designing and building the large turntable platform that Rick was to perform on. Craig had the turntable working just fine back at his shop, but on the day of the shoot...trouble. The added weight of Rick and two speakers on the large sheet of plexi-glass mounted atop of the turntable meant it would no longer turn. Production came to a stand still as Craig worked feverishly to solve the problem. After some anxious moments Craig was able to get the turntable moving again. But now there was a new issue...loud rubbing and squeaking noises were coming from the turntable. With no time to resolve this problem, production resumed and Rick had to perform this love song with all these odd noises going on around him. With the stressful one day shoot behind them, a few days later another problem came to light in post production. Due to a technical issue all the close up shots of Rick's performance were not usable. Within days a mini shoot was assembled to get the needed footage. This black and white footage of Rick performing was cut into the video and a few weeks later the completed video was airing on CMT Canada.

"Get Hot or Go Home" - February Video of the Month
posted: 02/04/08

The new Pick the Rick Video of the Month has been decided by you! Now showing in the Video section is Get Hot or Go Home. This video had been the runner up video for the past two months but has finally found its way to the top.

Voting has begun for the March Video of the Month, so remember you can cast your vote once a day, every day throughout the month of February to determine the next Rick Tippe music video to play here at www.ricktippe.com.

Fun Facts about the Get Hot or Go Home music video - The song Get Hot or Go Home is the title track of Rick's sophomore CD recorded in Nashville and released in October 1996. While this music video was Rick's fifth, it was the first for award winning Director Stephano Barberis. It is amongst the most elaborate Rick Tippe music videos ever produced. This two day shoot involved a large refrigerated warehouse where over a three day period a large ice house was constructed out of two hundred pound blocks of ice. Everyone who worked on the set of the video literally had to work in freezing temperatures to get the job done. The end scene was especially interesting for the cast as they had to dress up in swimwear...burr! The final day of the shoot took place on August 31 which is Rick and wife Bonnie's anniversary. The sad thing was that also on that date, August 31, 1997, Princess Diana passed away in a tragic car accident. The video did extremely well at CMT Canada making it into the Top 10 of the Chevy Top 20 Countdown.

Rick's performance was shot on a very cold February day and night in 1996 at an abandoned shipyard building in North Vancouver, B.C. The footage seen on the big screen in the video was shot the week before in and around the Vancouver area. The song went on to become the sixth consecutive Top 40 single from Rick's debut CD.

"She Could Have It All" - December Video of the Month
posted: 12/03/07

The new Pick the Rick Video of the Month has been decided by you! Now showing in the Video section is She Could Have It All. This song and video were released in 1995.

Runner up video Get Hot Or Go Home came in a close second but will have to wait until December 31st to see if it can become the first Pick the Rick Video of the Month to air in 2008. Voting has begun, so remember you can cast your vote once a day, every day throughout the month of December to determine the next Rick Tippe music video to play here at www.ricktippe.com.

Fun Facts about the She Could Have It All music video - The song came from Rick's debut CD Should'a Seen Her Comin' recorded in Nashville and released in February 1994. The video was the 1st ever music video for Rick and The Kings Of Cool (known at the time as Stetson Moon). The video was shot on a hot July day in 1995 at a heritage home in Richmond, B.C. This video featured a lot of Rick's relatives including his parents Alice and Elmer, his sons Tyler and Cameron, his cousins Alison, Darcy and Brent as well as numerous fans. Die hard fans will recognize original keyboard player Andy Smyth. The little girl in the video was played by Stephanie Evangelista whose older sister Daniella would go on to star in two Rick Tippe videos Triple Threat and The Future Is Lookin' Brighter. Other guest appearances were made by the disc jockey team of Michael Forbes and Lisa Marshall. At the end of the shoot the guys had to head over to Jake's Crossing in Port Moody, B.C. to perform to a packed house. The band headed over first as Rick still had his final scene to shoot. Once that was done Rick jumped into his van and kicked off his boots. Seconds later as he attempted to step on the gas pedal he was stung on the foot by a wasp. It stung pretty good and it wasn't until Rick was back on stage rockin' with the guys that he was able to forget about the pain. The one thing this video will be best remembered for is the Hair. All the guys had lots of it in those days.

"The Future Is Lookin' Brighter"
- November Video of the Month
posted: 11/02/07

The new Pick the Rick Video of the Month has been decided by you! Now showing on www.ricktippe.com is The Future Is Lookin' Brighter. This song and video were released in October 2001.

Runner up video She Could Have It All came in a close second but will have to wait until November 30th to see if it can become the next Pick the Rick Video of the Month. Voting has begun, so remember you can cast your vote once a day, every day throughout the month of November to determine the next Rick Tippe music video to play here at www.ricktippe.com.

Fun Facts about The Future Is Lookin' Brighter music video - Rick wrote this song while he had a few off days in the summer of 2000 in Red Deer, Alberta at the Travelodge Motel. The Future Is Lookin' Brighter is the 2nd music video Rick has shot in Las Vegas. Can you guess what the first one was? The shooting of this video took place on September 22 to 25 just 11 days after the 9/11 incident in New York. Traveling in and out of the USA was very difficult at the time and there was a big concern this video would be cancelled or postponed. Rick's oldest son Tyler is the lead male actor in the video. Watch for both Tyler and his brother Cameron to appear in Dad's new video to be released shortly.

Fun Facts about the "Singin' A Different Tune" music video - the karaoke portion of the video was shot at the Shine nightclub in Vancouver. Rick's performance was shot at a warehouse in Burnaby where a large set had been built out of 2 inch thick styrofoam sheets, plywood and colored gels. During the night prior to the shoot the lighting crew set their lights a bit too close to the styrofoam and they melted a large portion of the set. The set builder got a call at 2:00 AM to repair the damage. Both of Rick's sons perform along with him in this music video. Cameron is featured as one of the karaoke singers while Rick's other son Tyler plays one of the bartenders. Our webmaster Todd Hamilton and his girlfriend Mandy were two of the extras in the video. The TV monitor that the karaoke singers use was Rick's TV/VCR combo.

Party Down Posse take on new name - The Kings of Cool
posted: 08/11/07

In February of 1994 I hit the stage with my first band Stetson Moon. The band was comprised of Chris Rolin - lead guitar, Bruce Morrison - bass guitar and Chris Meister - drums. The band name was the name of a song on my first full length CD. The band used it as their name but no one in the band actually wore a Stetson. As time went on the guys wanted a new name. Fair enough.

So word got out. It was likely I said something on stage at one of our shows about how the guys wanted a new band name. Some of our biggest fans in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, who we refer to as Super-Fans, suggested the name The Party Down Posse a.k.a. the PDP. The inspiration for this name originated from the song Party Down from our 1998 album Shiver 'n' Shake. The name was changed in 1999 and the guys liked it much better than Stetson Moon.

Fast forward to 2006. The Party Down Posse wasn't working for the guys any more. The search for a new name began again. In conversation with our web master, Todd Hamilton. He also qualifies as a Super-Fan. I mentioned a song I had recently written The King Of Honky Tonks and Cool. Todd tells me that he thinks the name The Kings Of Cool would be a great name for the band. The band and I had been tossing around dozens of names, I personally didn't think the guys would like The Kings of Cool. I mentioned it to the band while on the road that weekend and surprise, surprise, surprise they loved it. On June 1st 2007 the new official name of Stetson Moon, I mean, The Party Down Posse was changed to The Kings Of Cool. Thanks Todd.
